(We have talked to other missionary moms and they suggest
downloading some catholic religious symbols, such as the Virgin Mary, and
gluing them on the outside of the package.
This way they are less likely to get stolen. I forgot to put the pictures on once, and the package did not reach my son.)
The most economical package we have found is the Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope. We have discovered that the 9.5 x 12.5 envelope can fit almost anything and the post office will mail you a package of these for free. I ran into another missionary mom at the post office and she gave me a few tips when addressing the package to avoid more theft problems. (Most of our packages have reached our son, but not all) On the label which all can see, check the box as a gift, and put down that the package does not total more than $4.00 and list the items as used books, candy, religious material etc. Also address the return address, as in our case, Father or Padre Miller or such, along with our home address.
